Student Newsletter: April 2021 Edition

Hello Ethos Literacy students! Welcome to our very first edition of the student newsletter. We will be putting out a newsletter for you once a month. It will contain updates about our office and Covid-19 as well as updates about things happening in the community. Be sure to subscribe to our mailing list to keep up to date!

First order of business - it is time to get retested in order to track your progress. If you have already been retested, then great! If not, please call/text the office or send an email to yesenia@reading-works.org to get scheduled. You have the option to do the test from home via Zoom or you may also choose to come and take the test in person (we are following all social distancing rules and sanitizing the test station regularly).

As for the Covid-19 update, we now have a page dedicated to updates about how our office is responding. As of right now, tutoring is still only being held virtually via Zoom. Like most of you, we are hoping that in the near future we will be able to meet again in person. For more information click here.

This pandemic has been hard for many families. If you are struggling financially, the city of Albuquerque has partnered with The New Mexico Dream Team to offer our residents a Financial Navigator Program. They offer their services in both English and Spanish. Watch the video below for more information or click here to read about the program.

If you didn't know, the city is also offering free outdoor WiFi access. This can be useful for your Zoom tutoring sessions. You can use this free WiFi in the parking lots of City buildings. There are also some spots in select APS bus locations. Check here regularly for updates.

We also have 3 new classes starting up - a Basic Literacy class (meeting Tuesdays at 6pm), a beginning ESL class (meeting Mondays at 7:30pm), and a beginning/intermediate ESL class (meeting Mondays at 12pm). Call today to see if you can join!

Well, that is all for this first edition! If you have any questions or comments please leave them in the comment section below or feel free to contact us. If you are an active student, leave a comment to let us know that you read this post and you will have the time counted towards your monthly hours. Have a great day!
